The Riches of Your Identity
It is easy to allow
our past, our failures, or the opinions of others to define us. We can become
so focused on what we've done wrong that we forget who we belong to.
Scripture gives us a
different foundation for our identity. We are God's people. We belong to Him. Peter calls believers
a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and a people for God's possession. Our
value doesn't begin with what we accomplish. It begins with the fact that we
are His.
God also sees what we
are becoming. He knows our weaknesses, but He is not finished with us. We may
not yet look like everything God intends us to be, but He is faithfully working
in us.
You are not your
worst mistake. You are not your past. You belong to God. When you understand
that, you can grow without being crushed by shame and serve without needing the
approval of others.
Scripture:
1 Peter 2:9 - But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Philippians 1:6 - For I am confident
of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until
the day of Christ Jesus.
Application:
Prayer:
Father, help me see myself through Your eyes. Keep my failures and the opinions of others from defining me. Thank You that I belong to You and that You are still working in my life.

- Consider one negative label you have placed on yourself.
- Replace it with a biblical truth about who you are in Christ.
- Thank God that your identity belongs to Him.
