Rescued by Love
Paul describes
humanity apart from Christ as spiritually dead, disobedient, influenced by the
world and the enemy, and controlled by sinful desires. It is a picture that
leaves no room for pride. But then Paul writes two words that change
everything: “But God.”
Those words are at
the heart of the gospel. Paul does not say that we eventually figured everything
out. He does not say that we became good enough for God to accept us. He says
that God stepped into our hopeless condition.
God's mercy means
that He does not give us the judgment we deserve. God's grace means that He
gives us what we could never earn. And God's love is the foundation behind His
rescue.
But Ephesians 2
reminds us that God's love was not based on our performance. God loved us when
we were spiritually dead. God moved toward us when we could not move toward
Him.
God sent Christ for us when we were helpless.
Your failure is not
the end.
Your past is not the end.
Your weakness is not the end.
Your circumstances are not the end.
God is still God. And His mercy is still greater than your sin.
Scripture:
Ephesians 2:4-5 - But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).
Application:
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your mercy and love. Thank You for sending Jesus when I could not rescue myself. Help me believe Your love even when I fail or struggle.
