Adopted Into God's Family
Adoption is one of
the most intimate pictures of our relationship with God. Ephesians 1 reveals
that we are not only saved but brought into God’s family as His children. This
adoption is rooted in love, planned from eternity, and given freely for His pleasure.
In the ancient world,
adoption carried significant meaning. It granted full rights and inheritance,
placing someone into a family as a fully recognized son. This is the image Paul
uses to describe our standing before God. We are not distant or merely tolerated;
we are welcomed, loved, and given full access to the Father.
Many believers
struggle to fully embrace this truth. Past experiences, broken relationships,
or feelings of unworthiness can distort how we view God. We may approach Him
with hesitation, forgetting that He invites us to call Him “Abba, Father.” This
term reflects closeness, trust, and affection.
God’s adoption of us
also reveals His joy. He did not bring us into His family reluctantly—it
pleased Him. He delights in His children. Understanding this transforms how we
approach Him in prayer, worship, and daily life.
Living as adopted
children means embracing both identity and inheritance. We are invited to
experience the richness of our relationship with God now, not just in eternity.
