When We Wander, God Pursues

Sheep wander, it's just what they do. Heads down, following whatever's in front of them, they can drift far from safety without ever noticing it's happening. It's a simple picture, but it says something true about us: we're prone to wander too.
 
Isaiah 53:6 doesn't soften this. It says all of us have gone astray. This is part of the human condition. Sometimes we drift slowly, through distraction or neglect. Other times we make a choice we know is taking us further from God. Either way, we end up in the same place: distant from the Shepherd.
 
But here's where the gospel shows its beauty. In Luke 15:4, Jesus tells of a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep in the open field to go after the one that's lost. God doesn't write us off the moment we stray. He comes looking.

A lot of us struggle here because we feel unworthy once we realize how far we've drifted. But restoration was never about our worthiness in the first place, it's rooted entirely in who God is. He seeks because He loves.
 
Practically, that means we don't have to find our own way back before we turn to Him. We just respond to His pursuit. That tug of conviction you feel, that's not rejection. That's an invitation to come home.

Luke 15:4 - What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
 
Application:

• Identify any area where you may have drifted spiritually.

• Take one intentional step back toward God

• Thank God for pursuing you even in the wandering.

 
Prayer:
Father, thank You for never giving up on me. Even when I wander, You pursue me with love and patience. Help me recognize Your voice and respond quickly when You call me back. Draw my heart closer to You each day.
