The God Who Pursues

In Psalm 23:6 David declares that it is not he who is chasing God, but God who is pursuing him. The Hebrew word used for “follow” carries a sense of relentless pursuit, like a hunter tracking its target. This is not passive affection; it is active, intentional love.
 
This truth is rooted deeply in the nature of God revealed throughout Scripture. From the garden of Eden, where God sought Adam and Eve after their sin, to the coming of Christ, who came “to seek and to save the lost,” we see a consistent pattern: God moves toward His people. Even when we wander, doubt, or resist, His goodness does not retreat.
 
As Christians, we may feel unworthy of His attention or assume that our failures disqualify us from His care. Yet David’s life tells a different story. Despite his sins and shortcomings, he confidently affirms that God’s goodness followed him all his days.
 
Understanding this changes how we live. If God is pursuing us, then we are never abandoned. If His goodness is active, then even our difficult seasons are not empty of His presence. This truth invites us to stop striving and begin trusting.

Lord, thank You that You are not distant or passive, but actively pursuing me with Your goodness and love. Help me to recognize Your presence in every season of my life, even when I don’t feel it. Teach me to trust that You are always near, always working, and always faithful.
