Trusting the Shepherd's Care

When David declares, "The Lord is my Shepherd," he's making a statement of trust. A shepherd's job is to guide, protect, and provide. It's a humbling image, honestly, because it admits something we don't love admitting: we're not self-sufficient.

Still, trusting God's care doesn't come easily. Most of us would rather hold the reins ourselves. We like making our own calls, plotting our own course, leaning on our own judgment. But like sheep, we wander. We make bad choices. And left to ourselves, we tend to spiral into anxiety.

Real trust means loosening that grip, believing He sees further down the road than we do, and that His leading is for our good even when it doesn't feel that way. This isn't something that clicks into place overnight. It's built day by day, through choosing to rely on Him again and again.

But when that trust takes root, something changes. Peace shows up even in uncertainty. You stop carrying the full weight of having it all figured out, because you know He's leading, one step at a time.

Isaiah 40:11 - Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.

• Hand it over to God in prayer.

• Practice trust today by taking one small step of obedience.

Prayer:
Father, I know I try to run my own life more often than I'd like to admit. Teach me to trust Your care and guidance. Help me follow where You lead, even when I can't see the whole picture. Thank You for caring for me so faithfully.
